Dr. Stephane Dunn

Writer and filmmaker, Professor Stephane Dunn, Ph.D., M.A., M.F.A. is a co-founder and academic coordinator for the Cinema, Television & Emerging Media Studies Program (CTEMS).

Dr. Stephane Dunn’s research and writing focuses on race, gender, and class in American and African American culture, particularly film, TV, and literature. She is a frequent moderator, consultant, and guest commentator appearing on various media platforms such as NPR and PushBlack. Dunn has co-written and produced two short documentary films, Fight for Hope and Mr. Creek’s Move and several plays. She is the author of the book, “Baad Bitches & Sassy Supermamas: Black Power Action Films” (University of Illinois Press) and the forthcoming novel “Snitchers”(2022). Her essays have appeared in edited books, including Best African American Essays (2009) and Film Dialogue among others. She has published other writings in a number of other publications, including Ms., The Chronicle of Higher Education, CNN.com., The Atlantic, Vogue, TheRoot, Ebony, and NPR, among others. Dunn is the 2016 winner of the Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color Award for Snitchers. Her screenplay Chicago ’66 is the 2020 Finish Line/Tirota Social Impact Screenplay Competition winner.
